Since 2021, Giorgi Gvalia has been serving as the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs at Ilia State University. From 2000 to 2004, he studied at Tbilisi State University, Faculty of International Law and International Relations, specializing in International Relations. In 2007, he completed his Master’s degree in International Relations at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the same university. In 2013, he was awarded a Doctorate in Political Science at Ilia State University.
His professional experience encompasses both academic and public service. From 2006 to 2007, he worked as a researcher at the Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies, and from 2008 to 2013, he served as Chief Advisor in the Analytical Department of the Administration of the National Security Council of Georgia. In 2011, he was a researcher at the School of Global Policy at the University of Arizona, USA. Between 2012 and 2013, he was Deputy Dean of the Business School at Ilia State University, and from 2013 to 2021, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Ilia State University.
Giorgi Gvalia is a full Professor of Politics and International Relations at Ilia State University and also serves as the Head of the Jean Monnet Chair.
